Does breast enhancement make patients feel better about themselves
Breast enhancement is a very important step in a woman’s life. The way she stands out to the world will certainly change, as self-esteem and self-confidence arise. This is a fact. But what must not be obliterated is that all her underlying personality issues will not magically go away.
Just to mention some number to back up these affirmations, suicide among women who have undergone a surgical breast enhancement procedure, is 73% higher than in the rest of women. This clearly shows that, even though some things may have changed at a skin-deep level, psychologically, underlying issues -fears, complexes, traumas, bad childhood experiences- remain.
In many cases, breast enhancement surgery only enhances previous personality flaws. For instance, if the patient has difficulties relating to the opposite sex -lack of trust, abusive partners, etc- these preferences and previous ways of relation will remain.
In fact, many women seeking for surgical breast enhancement already have problems related to low self-esteem and self-appreciation. Surgery, in many cases, only makes these problems more profound. This is so, partly because of the frustration that they will experience when they find out that there is no magical solution to her problems. Cosmetic breast enhancement surgery is just that, a cosmetic change. This frustration often bring about more severe consequences, such as depression and suicidal attempts.
The fact is that, many surgeons can clearly spot the problem, but refuse to refer the woman to a counselor, in case the business might collapse.
